What a week it was for the Kansas City Royal. Finally, in the final full week of baseball in September, the Royals got their first three-game series sweep of the season. They defeated the Twins to start the week, essentially knocking them out of playoff contention. Then the Royals took two of three games from the Seattle Mariners, a team that currently holds the final Wild Card spot in the American League. In the final homestand of the season, the Royals certainly did not disappoint the fans who went out to the ballpark over the weekend. Bobby Witt Jr. also got an RBI single on an infield hit, giving the Royals a lead for the moment. Then Salvador Perez got the game-sealing, go-ahead RBI double in the seventh inning to give the Royals the lead for good. Scott Barlow pitched 1.2 innings to get his 22nd save of the season. Dominant bullpen win, sweep clinchedIn game two of the series against the Twins, Melendez got things started on the right foot with a leadoff home run. The Royals never looked back, pushing ahead to a 5-2 win over the Twins. Daniel Lynch lasted only four innings, but the bullpen pitched five shutout frames to preserve the win for the Royals Gilberto Celestino Jersey. Barlow picked up his 23rd save of the season during this win.
