Moody overcast misty morning is how makeup artist Sandy Ganzer described the inspiration for Schafer’s dramatic eye look. We had the most perfect misty gray morning in L.A. the day before and I kept remarking to myself how it looked like the exact color of her dress, she explains. Another reference point for Ganzer was Britney Spears’s iconic denim look, and accompanying dusty azure eye, for the 2001 American Music Awards. I love the way the icy blues and dusty charcoals pair with the denim Rick Owens gown, she says. To create the eye, Ganzer used the grayish pigment from Shiseido’s Kaigan Street Waters palette as a base, then drew on a sharp wing, extending the color on the bottom lash as well. After deepening the wing shape with Pop Powder eyeshadow in Zaa-Zaa Navy, she tapped Shari-Shari Silver over the navy to create a shimmering baby blue, and intensified her lash line with Arch Liner Ink and one coat of ImperialLash waterproof mascara. A touch of a pinky nude lip really complements the stormy eye without either element overpowering each other, explains Ganzer of opting to finish the look with a wash of soft pink on the cheeks and a sheer wash of Lacquer Ink Lipshine in Mirror Mauve on the mouth.
