Other measures the developer might look at as punishments to punish RWT activity are RuneScape gold set to include wealth removal which is basically removing ill-gotten gains from accounts of players on the server level. Also, possible bans.
RuneScape’s PvP component, dubbed”the Duel Arena, will also be subject to stricter rules. Jagex says the feature “has been a trigger for this toxic behaviour” and that 38 per cent in all suspensions for RWT activity up until now stem from this element in the game. Jagex says this is equivalent up to “thousands of bans per month”.
So, the developer seems to be taking the nucleus alternative, saying “we’re thinking about the long-term to eliminate in the Duel Arena out of RuneScape entirely.” In the meantime the company will introduce “some short-term measures” to tidy up PvP “until our team of developers is able to release an important update that completely substitutes for the Duel Arena next year.”
There will be a limit for the quantity of GP which is also known as gold points and players will be able to stake an event in the Duel Arena. Players can wager “no more than 50m GP per duel”. Additional measures aren’t defined yet.
Jagex confirms that “a brand-new experience that will make up part of the Elder God Wars storyline” will replace Duel Arena in the early 2022 timeframe However, no additional details are available yet.
Although the effect of these changes remains to be determined, they appear to be one of the most effective measures any studio has made to combat external abuse of its system to achieve cash-flow cheap OSRS gold. If successful, similar measures could be seen across the MMO space in future.
