For those who do not pay for the game, you’ll only receive one legendary crest every month. Even buying the battle pass will be rewarded with Diablo 4 Gold two or three additional legendary crests each month. Then, you’ll have to purchase them from the source. Legendary crests range in price from somewhere between $2 and $3 each. The sheer amount of gems that you’ll need to boost your character’s gear and abilities, particularly when you consider the extremely low drop rates for five-star gems. This is the reason the total cost to max out your character’s potential for Diablo Immortal has been estimated to be somewhere between $100,000 and $50,000perhaps more if you get deep into the gem resonance system. (Rock Paper Shotgun is detailed cost breakdown that puts it at the cautious end of this scale.)
Diablo Immortal has been given an extremely rough time for this business model — perhaps disproportionately given that popular free-to-play competitors like Genshin Impact and Lost Ark aren’t immune to similar gacha mechanics to lure in big-spending “whale” gamer. Diablo’s name and fame among a core PC gaming population, built over a quarter of a century, is certainly an element. But , it’s also true Diablo is a particularly problematic system, and the very nature of Diablo games has some connection to that.
When you purchase legendary crests, remember that you’re not purchasing a roll of the dice like you purchase a FIFA Ultimate Team card pack, say. You are purchasing the chance to play with the dice, to get into the game engine and alter the drop rate (slightly) to your advantage. Gambling mechanics that are addictive are not isolated from the addictive gameplay mechanics, but rather tied directly to the combat system and loot drops within the game. Diablo is incredibly well-positioned to achieve this. As my colleague Maddy Myers pointed out, these games heavily focused on loot always had the feel of a slot machine and this is what Diablo Immortal’s business strategy makes an actual.
Blizzard has been at pains to emphasize that Immortal’s monetization is able to be ignored up to the point of the endgame that is the case, and claims that the vast majority gamers enjoy the game without having to spend anything, which is quite plausible. However, it’s not true that the main enjoyment of cheap Diablo 4 Gold is experiencing the story instead of trying to max out your character. It’s also absurd to claim that these games have always been designed to create a hunger for hitting the power level of the players. People who have a tendency towards gambling addiction, to the addictive aspects of Diablo’s Item gameor, more importantly even both — the legendary crest system could be extremely harmful and can be very exploitative.
