After 30 some odd years, people are still bragging

Before you had your signature shoe like you had the Mut 22 coins Nike Air Bo Turf, in 1990, you starred in by wearing the Nike Air Trainer 3, which became known as your shoe. What are your memories surrounding that Air Trainer 3?

The way I’ll present it in this way. In 1969 my time in the first grade , growing up in rural Alabama during the winter, it was the mid-30s outside. And I was required to attend school barefoot. No shoes. I’m not telling this story for empathy or to make a story. However, I do remember my brother standing a block away from his home. I’m in front of the door. There was a sister standing just a few blocks from my younger brother and my other sister was waiting at on the way to the bus stop. My sister who was at the bus stop could see the bus crest the hill a couple of kilometers away, she’d shout towards my younger sister, who would yell at my brother. And my brother would yell at me. And then I’d go out the door barefoot. When my brother got to my first sister I’d be able to catch him earlier. As we got to the bus stop I’m 15or 20 feet from my sister and brother. I went to school barefoot in the winter of 1969 to growing up and getting an athletic shoe that was inspired by my mother … It was blessed.

After 30 some odd years, people are still bragging about their shoes and keep the shoes. A couple of weeks ago an old friend my own, Anthony Anderson, the comedian, texted me, ‘Hey, Bo! I’m doing a show about the sneakers I own. I can’t find them. I’m in need in your sneakers! It happened that I was wearing a pair inside my workplace. I said, ‘Hey! I’ve got the shoes here. You can send those to your address. It’s times like that when I’m able to sit in my chair and think, ‘Wow!.’

This NFL year, New York Giants running back and Nike star Saquon Barkley was gifted his own replica of Air Trainer 3. What did it feel like to witness him pay tribute to you by wearing the sneaker?

I blessed him with the shoes. It was as if I said”Grasshopper! It’s the right now to carry the torch. You must take it seriously.’ I know that Saquon will do an excellent job at this. Saquon is a wonderful kid. He reminds me a number of my own. He’s a runner with a lot of power and his head straight. That’s the thing that impresses me most. It’s not the stats. I love the way the man carries himself.

It will be Bo Jackson. But when you consider your memories of the NFL running backs who’ve pursued you, which of them remind you most of yourself?

I can think of two -Two – Saquon as well as Derrick Henry — on the sheer strength, power and knowing how to navigate between the buy Madden nfl 22 coins field and defense. They may not be able to match the speed I had. But they have made things work. They’re very efficient in their field. They’re also looked at as top of the top running backs today.
